The purpose of this job is to provide process instrumentation technical knowledge to Electronics & Imaging(E&I) Businesses. An Instrumentation Engineering Subject Matter Expert(SME) is a member of a global leveraged engineering science team that is made up of engineers from several different engineering disciplines. The Instrument engineering SME leads the development and implementation of appropriate instrumentation strategies to drive the E&I organization towards advanced process control. Provide solutions which add value through work process, unit operations, operating condition or process technology improvements. The Instrument Engineering SME will be an active member on both capital project and continuous improvement teams focused on delivering process instrumentation and control systems that will contribute to safe, efficient, and reliable process design to meet business growth initiatives. The Process Instrumentation Engineer will have a critical role in supporting product by process across the Electronics & Imaging Business. Leverages technical know-how, develop/implements best practices, and provide technical coaching, consulting and support.

Responsibilities for this role include the following:

  • Provide instrument technical support in selecting and implementing the appropriate instrument technology solution.

  • Serve as an instrument Subject Matter Expert(SME) on providing timely technical reviews and inputs of complex designs on capital projects or in support of continuous improvement projects

  • After implementation of new instrumentation, complete analysis of the in-process data and work closely with the A&PC engineers to develop the appropriate process control scheme

  • Identify and develop both instrument technology and work process enhancements and develop/implement overall instrument strategy for E&I

  • Leverage best practices across business facilities and teams

  • Support Process Engineers and Manufacturing Representatives on reviewing and validating instrument process data

  • Ensures that the instrument scope is well defined and meets the business needs in a cost-effective manner

  • Apply expertise in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating potential EH&S and process safety hazards in conjunction with process safety technology leader and business Engineering Science leaders.

  • Participate in project commissioning and startup activities, including assisting in tuning of control loops

  • Apply knowledge of global design standards for instrumentation and applicable engineering codes

  • Assist in instrument planning, forecasting, and manpower requirements for a project

  • Work effectively and efficiently with Design Engineering, Process Automation, Project Management and other stakeholders in the execution of projects

  • Establish and lead instrument community of practice share point site

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in instrument design engineering.

  • Bachelor's of Science in Engineering

  • Travel requirements of 30% of time are expected. Additional travel may be required depending on assignments and opportunities.

  • Strong initiative and team leadership capabilities

  • Strong data analysis skills

  • Strong interpersonal relationship and time-management skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Experience working with batch and continuous operations processes

  • Basic Understanding of the function of many types of instruments/sensors/online analytic equipment in process plants

  • Understanding of third party devices and setup interfacing with DCS (PLC, microcomputers, etc.)

  • Understanding of interactions and data flow between distributed control systems (DCS), information systems (IS), supervisory control and data acquisition systems (SCADA), manufacturing execution systems (MES), etc.

  • Experience working with external contractors / engineering procurement contractors (EPC)/main automation vendors on process automation projects

  • Six Sigma Certification (Green or Black)

  • Manufacturing or startup / commissioning experience
